Hi. I’m Lorie Marrero, creator of the Clutter Diet book and on-line program, and today we’re going to talk about organizing your bathroom. Now, the goal of organizing your bathroom is to make it as easy as possible for you to get dressed and ready every morning and get out the door feeling great about your day. So let’s talk about how to make that happen.

First we should think about how we consider bathroom storage [POP] in general. And I think of that as two different kinds of inventory. So you have your working supply of things that you use every day that you need very accessible. And then you have what we call the back stock of spare items that you have purchased in advance to replace your working supply when it runs out. So let’s look at this working supply idea. So you want to have these things as accessible as possible such as in a drawer right next to your sink, or you can have a bag with your frequently used supplies, like this is my daily makeup and brushes that I use every single day. So I can zip this up and travel with it or whatever I need to do. You can also have for your working supply a bowl that just sits out on your counter. This would be for skin care and other daily use items. So there are lots of ways that [POP] you can handle your working supply of things so that you can get ready really fast.

Now, when something runs out, you need to go to your back stock to get a spare item. We organize the back stock in different categories according to, as goofy as this sounds, parts of the body. So if you think about it, nails, teeth, skin [POP], hair, all of those parts of the body have their corresponding supplies. So it’s a really easy way to think about all of that. So I have a bin here for nail care, and I have another bin for dental or things for my teeth, and then I have other things for my hair and things for my skin. So all of those bins are easy for me to find when I need to go and replace an item that I have already bought for my working supply. And if you might notice, I have a lot of storage under this sink of mine here and normally that’s hard to do, because there are pipes underneath the sink. There is a great product that I really love, it’s an under-sink shelving unit, and it works around the pipes that you have. And you simply build it inside the cabinet and snap in the shelves around the pipes. So it creates several layers of storage that really [POP] maximize the space underneath the sink.

Another thing to remember about organizing your bathroom is that a lot of things in bathrooms have expiration dates on them. So take advantage of that — and I wish every piece of clutter would have an expiration date on it — so I think it’s a great idea to just take heed of that and discard whatever you find. I have a client who is a pharmaceutical consultant and she told me, “Yes, we really do need to pay attention to those dates,” and, “There really is a reason for them.” So when you are throwing things out, make sure that you’re careful about medications. We do have another video about that, that you can see here on the screen. And otherwise, if you like these tips and strategies, there’s a lot more where that came from.
